Badge in possession of private collector.

Kokopelli Traders was approached in 1997 by a U.S. Attorney's Office HR representative in the District of New Jersey who had been using the original badges on retirement plaques after breaking off the pin and clasp. She told him the badges were ordered to be returned to main Justice in D.C. during the Nixon administration. For some reason theirs where never shipped out and she had probably 150 of them but was running out.

Continued to right.

To do it right, Kokopelli needed to have one of the badges to reverse engineer. The woman was not amenable, but around same time the owner found an original badge in an antique store. He gave it to his badge people in upstate New York, who disassembled it and made a mold. The original badge was ruined from a historical standpoint, but it was put back together with modern enameling and return it to him.

The badge is constructed in three separate pieces: the shield, the eagle, and the front title piece. They are then soldered together. This example would be for "The" U.S. Attorney. The replicas are manufactured in the USA.
