While serving in the District of Utah during the 2002 Winter Olympics, this curator experienced federal, state and local agencies who producing official items to celebrate the event. After transferring to the Western District of Michigan, the idea to document and display our symbols and emblems was born. This Museum was officially created in 2011 and in 2015 championed the first U.S. Probation commemorative badge. The first U.S. Pretrial Services commemorative badge followed in 2017. For the 2025 Centennial, the third commemorative badge was released.
The Museum continues to strive to discover and document the 100-year legacy of United States Probation and Pretrial Services through the preservation and display of our symbols and tools.

The U.S. Probation Act was signed March 4, 1925. The Museum was invited to the 2025 Centennial celebration event held at the Mayflower Hotel, Washington D.C.
U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services is the only federal law enforcement agency to serve in two of the three branches of government. From 1925 to 1940 in the Executive Branch under the Department of Justice and after 1940 service has been to the Judicial Branch.
