PATCHES
Middle District of Nort Carolina (MDNC), district patch, designed by two officers and donated by U.S. Probation Officer Specialist. At the time of manufacture the district planned to relocate a field office to Southern Pines, N.C. The office was instead moved to Pinehurst, N.C. making Southern Pines a ghost location.
Middle District of Nort Carolina (MDNC), Search and Enforcement team patch, designed by two officers and donated by U.S. Probation Officer Specialist. John Luke Osteen became the first USPO in the MDNC in 1933. The year is reflected in the number panel. The Latin team motto is “Velas Et Revelabimus,” or “You conceal/hide it, we reveal/find it.” Unlike all their other patches this patch has no reference to the State of North Carolina.
Pretrial Service 3 1/4" hand sewn semi-bullion patch produced by Commercial Emblem, a woman owed business which was established in 1972 and is now defunct. Less beading, and more stitching than a full bullion patch. The only other one of these I have seen was presented to an officer for his service to the Eastern District of Virginia, 1991 to 1996, upon his transfer to the District of Maryland. Museum purchase 2023.
Project safe prisons patch from the Northern District of West Virginia. Measures 4 ½” tall by 4” wide. Very rare as USPO is rarely included in task force patches. Museum purchase 2023 from a BOP collector.
U.S. Pretrial Services Middle District of Florida 4” round PVC hook-and-loop fastener backed patch. The counties served by the district are highlighted. Created/designed and donated by Supervisory Pretrial Services Officer in 2021. The patch was inspired by the design of ED/MI pretrial. Officer funded and 100 were produced by Symbol Arts. U.S. Pretrial Services Middle District of Florida 3½” badge patch. Patch looks like metal but is a flexible material. Created/designed by Supervisory Pretrial Services Officer in 2023. U.S. Probation Middle District of Florida 3½” patch. This embroidered patch was manufactured by GS-JJ in 2022. Four hundred were made with iron-on backing and 50 with hook-and-loop fastener backing. Northern District of Indiana patch. ISI SERVICES CORP. produced the 2 ¾” patch in 2023. Pending further information.

The lighthouse and Brooklyn Bridge symbolize the seafaring history of Long Island. The probation shield (patch at the top of the page) recognizes the law enforcement mission of the district. ISI Services Corp. produced 101 of the 4” patches in 2023. The orange, white and blue coloring, is the color of the sea and sunset, the colors of the Islands sports teams, and the colors of New York’s state flag. Donation courtesy of the Chief. District of Maryland woven 3” patch. Manufactured by Maryland Print House in 2021. The USPO designer used the Great Seal and had 100 patches made for a fundraiser for their Special Events Committee, which the officer chaired.

District of Maine 3 3/4'“ x 3 3/4” patch. Design ideas were solicited from staff, and a Teams poll was used for voting. The winning submission was created by a USPO using Canva. Custom Woven Labels produced 200 embroidered patches in 2024. Donated by Chief Probation Officer December 2024.

Northern District of Mississippi 3 1/2” patch. Traded from the systems premier coin collector. Shield references U.S. Route 61 and the Blues music of the state. The Magnolia grandiflora pictured is the State flower. Obtained by the Museum in 2025. Information needed on manufacturer and number made!
Southern District of Alabama 4” patch. Donated by Chief Probation Officer after the National Centennial Celebration, Mayflower Hotel, Washington, D.C., March 2025. Pictured is the USS Alabama. She was the fourth and final member of the South Dakota class of fast battleships, now retired.
From the most prolific producer of symbols and emblems, the District of Hawaii. This 4” patch is hook-and-loop fastener backed and their first PVC patch. The patch is very three dimensional. The center seal of the badge is twice as high as the border. Donated by SUSPO July 2025.

4” PVC hook-and-loop fastener backed patch commemorating the National Championship Centennial Shooting Competition. The event was held at our National Academy, Charleston, South Carolina, September 26, 2025. The 11 shooters, one representing each Circuit, designed the patch which was also made into a shirt with the competitor’s names. A quantity of 50 patches was produced by customlanyards.com.
